December, usually the month of festivities and frolics at the good old Christmas party turned out to be a very busy month of racing, most of the team donned their running shoes and took part in the runners favorite Creek Striders Half Marathon and there was a few triathlons and a few duathlons stuffed in the Christmas stocking too!
First up, the Noosa Triathlon Festival of Fun down under on the Gold Coast took Tom of Oman and his lovely swimmer missus Siobhan home and they had the special pleasure of a visit from Andy V, for whom Noosa is now an annual vacation. This race could be a team outing for the future what with the local connections!
1 December Giant Duathlon. There were two in the month and the format changed so it’s hard to compare results, the first race was on 1 December and was 4km/30km/3km, results: top team dog Sellar 2nd 1:11:26, James 5th 1:16:05, Q 16th (3rd F) 1:22:19, Andre 30th 1:29:26
2 December Challenge Phuket (half ironman) – After his obvious disappointment of his result in the Classic Piers smashed the half ironman race a week later and came 5th in AG40-44 with an overall time of 4:55:34… If only he could master the swim as he does the bike and run!
6 December Creek Striders Half Marathon – a great turn out by the ‘runners’ and almost everyone bagged a PB, results:
Andy V 1:36:18
8 December IM Bussleton, Western Australia – Chief was back in Perth and after a torrid few weeks, some testing training in some filthy weather in Dubai he smashed the course and his new PB 11:21:15. Swim 1:18:39 | T1 6:34 | Bike 5:37:32 | T2 4:56 | Run 4:13:34
13 December Al Ain Amblers Half Marathon – the Running God Sellar was away on business and couldn’t run in the creek Striders half marathon the previous week so Coach found him an alternative in which he showed us how it’s done and came 2nd in 1:12:30, average pace 3.26/km, think about that! The amazing fact about this result – regular top 10 Kona and professional athlete Faris Al Sultan came 3rd with a 1:13:08. Stella Sellar! 🙂
20 December Giant Duathlon and the distances increased to 5km/40km/5km, results: top team dog Andy V 6th 1:50:00, Jimmy 7th 1:50:52, Q 18th 3rd (F) 1:59:13. There was also shorter race on the same day with distances of 3km/25km/3km, results: top team puppy dog Andre 5th 1:12:12 and Shaz 23rd 1:35:36
