August was all about the Byrne family. First, Damien Byrne raced in the Virgin Active London Triathlon under his alias ‘Martin Grove’ and then his sister Colleen raced in a sprint race in Copenhagen and placed 4th in the girls only 52 seconds off first place and it should be noted that she got held up in the swim and bike with so many people on the course (information provided by Damo on the sidelines whilst she was racing). The very next day Damien raced in his first ironman distance event – IM Copenhagen – you can read Damien’s race report of the day and events leading up to the race here.
TT2A Athlete of the Month
Damien ‘Sea-shepherd’ Byrne
I seriously think that Damo has won Athlete of the year here with his 11.29hrs in Copenhagen.
1- He wanted to finish
2- He wanted to break 13 hours and just sneak into the “12” club.
3- He swims 66 and the goal was 80
4- He bikes 5.36hrs with the goal 6.20hrs
5- He runs 4.30hrs with a goal time off a 6.20hrs bike to be 5hrs.
6- A T2A Facebook posting record by the rest of the team tracking him on the day
7- He finished in T2A stripes
He went 1.30hrs faster then our goals which included my goal. He obviously went faster as we were programmed to race at HR pace. For me, this has T2A Athlete of the year written all over it. Especially if you know Damo and his very busy life. I am blown away, thanks Damien for believing and sending me all your data these past 8 weeks and really putting your head down when I pressed you and said now is the time to step it up….You did precisely that son. You among many others have backed me these past 12 months, that’s means a lot to me mate. You deserve that result in front of your kids, wife and family!!!
A very happy CP 🙂
