TT2A Athlete of the Month :: December 2012

December saw quite a number of the team racing in Asia and Australia with two team favorite races Ironman 70.3 Phuket and Ironman Bussleton. Capt. Carl also had a successful campaign in his qualifying races for the ITU Sprint World Champs – to be held in London 2013, he raced in Adelaide and Perth. So without Further ado… the girls have done it again.

Tri2aspire Athlete of the Month December 2012

 Lisa ‘Fentonator’ Fenton

Lisa was selected for her personal performance in Ironman Bussleton. This was Lisa’s 3rd Ironman race following her first in South Africa in 2011 and 2nd in Roth in July 2012, unfortunately Lisa didn’t have a great race in Roth facing issues on the bike, and after overcoming massive doubts in triathlon and herself she persisted, trained hard and all her efforts paid off. Lisa had a fantastic race achieving a PB… check out Lisa’s race report here. Lisa is a testimony to dedication, hard work and self belief, proven in one of the toughest races you can face! Well done Lisa 🙂

2011 S 2:01:10 :: T1 0:07:10 :: B 7:12:18 :: T2 0:08:21 :: R 5:31:14 :: Overall 15:00:13

It’s difficult making a decision on AOTM as everyone trains so hard and face their own challenges in training and then on race day. This months nominations were as follows….

This is the last AOTM2012 has been a great year and it’s been great to acknowledge everyone’s efforts month in month out. Great racing in 2012 guys, the calendar is already filling up for 2013 – train hard and race even harder. Farewell AOTM 🙂

TT2A Racing :: Western Australia

Bussleton has become another favorite race of the team, a fast course although somewhat challenging with the Australian sun beating down on the marathon and – flies! Buzz…

We have Jeroen, Lisa, Ahmed, Timmy, Piers and Chief competing down under this weekend. They’re all in great shape, we saw the difference in Lisa and Ahmed at camp. Piers is in hard shape, Chief and Timmy very prepared and Capt J is entering his 4th IM with the team and is in great shape across all 3 sports. It promises to be a nice chat room as we all wake up to the team on the bike. It’s a 3am (UAE) start so, when we wake up at 7-ish or so, the crew are on the bike and we get to have a few coffees all relaxed as they begin the marathon 🙂 Busso is hot, expect emotion at the Pro level and our level. Fit athletes don’t get nervous, our team are NOT nervous 🙂

A State across and that same day, Captain Carl is racing the Australian QF event in Adelaide to try and make the team for the 2013 ITU World Champs in London. Chicago is already in for USA and we have a few more of the team looking to QF in the New Year 🙂

TT2A Athlete of the Month :: November 2012

November is possibly one of the best months in the Tri2aspire calendar, the weather is great, the sea temperature is perfect, we have the annual Crowie Camp which is always a joy and the newbies along with the more seasoned members of the team make the pilgrimage to Phuket for the Laguna ‘Classic’ Triathlon – a great race which has forever been endorsed by Coach 🙂 This year we waved farewell to tri comrades Mike O’Brien, Colleen Byrne, Heather McKenzie, James Cresswell, Dr Hisham, Damien Byrne, Lea Lehtinen and Sharon Ditchburn to see them embrace the hills, downpours and humidity to race in the season favorite. We had some great results too… The committee was torn between two of the nominees and after much deliberation…

NOVEMBER 2012

TT2A ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

Sharon Ditchburn

Sharon has shown commitment and tenacity in her training over the years which should not be overlooked. Last year Shaz missed the cutoff and was thrown out of the event. This year the goal was to break 6 hours and finish the event. She finished in 5.22hrs and quite deserves AOTM, she worked very hard for her result. Check out her race report here.

This months nominees were:

Colleen Byrne who placed 2nd in her age group 25-29’s with a 3.45 hours…. Amazing race considering camp was her first ever triathlon.

Heather McKenzie also put in an impressive performance placed 4th in the very competitive 30-34’s with a 3.39hrs and now Miss Chatterbox has some confidence with how good she can be.

Mike O’Brien… another newbie is hooked, fullstop. He broke 4 hours with a 3.57hrs on his first outing with the team.

James Cresswell proved at camp how much courage he has and it is no surprise he was first from the team in a 3.20hrs, Coach is backing this kid to go mid 10 hours next year in IM.

Damien Byrne… beat his sister, thats all was required 🙂 and went 3.35hrs which is very impressive as Damo has only just comeback in to training. Check out Damo’s race report here.

Doc is another one hooked, he went 4.15hrs and does ALL HIS training out of Riyadh and up until 8 months ago, had no idea of Triathlon. A very very impressive result Doctor Hisham.
Lea…. was sick and has been working hard long hours with travel. It was a concern that she would not get through the event yet, raced in 4.45hrs with a smile I wager. Huge respect as we know Lea’s working hours are demanding.

TT2A Racing :: IM 70.3 Phuket

We have the TT2A big guns arriving into Phuket as I type. Higgsy, Henry, Hunty, National and Marshall are all geared up as the Classic newbies return home with the bacon.
Venny has been the undisputed Mr pom pom and from what I heard, has not not had a beer in his hand all week 🙂
Anyway, we can watch these guys live on www.ironmanlive.com and race start will be about 3am UAE. By the time you wake up, they will be running 🙂
