This weekend we have our biggy local race Abu Dhabi International Triathlon (how lucky we are!) with Team T2A racing in the Sprint, Short and Long Course… We’ve had some great weather in the last few weeks apart from a few shamals… Lets hope the wind stays down on race day or it’ll be a tough day out there – remember 2011 🙂 Abu Dhabi weather forecast
There’s a change to the race set up and course so make sure you check it out on the official race website
Team… make sure you get down to Ghantoot for the usual pre-race 15-15-15 on Friday! 🙂
Everyone’s finished and getting ready for the post race party for sure… and there is some celbrating to be done, the results speak for themselves!! Very hot & humid conditions, a technical course with some traffic by all acounts… Looking forward to the race reports, sounds like its been an interesting trip to Sri Lanka!!! 🙂 Team T2A Results
Marie O’Neill was racing the 5150 and finished in 3:01:00 🙂 Cannot find the 5150 results on the IM website for love nor money though!!! Come on Ironman sort it out!! 🙂
Team T2A are out on the course in Sri Lanka as I type. A relatively small field for an Ironman event and Team T2A are smashing it. Ian Le Pelley was 5th out of the water overall in 28:01….. 4 Pro’s in front of him, he’s currently leading his AG 35-39 and is on the run. Unfortunately we’re not seeing the spilts on the athlete tracker so we have to wait for further updates from Sri Lanka to see how he’s getting on…
We have Didge and Piers out there as or eyes and ears on the ground and of course you can track all athletes on the Ironman website
Racing today include (all out on the run): Hammer (leading AG M45-49), Janey (leading AG F35-39), Jay ‘Faris’ Grant, JT, Seano, Stevo (4th in AG M50-54, again showing some good running form of late), Higgsy, Jordo, Marshall (6th off the bike in AG M40-44 – that man can run so we expect to see him move up the field), Tim (currently 5th in AG M30-34), Elliot & Mitchel
& we have Marie in the 5150
More to come….
The RAK Half Marathon is an unlikely location for the richest Half Marathon in the world, in its 6th year it is an ideal opportunity for T2A athletes to take a short trip up coast from Dubai to try for a PB on a fast course. Friday 17th February 2012 was windy day, and here in the desert the winds whip up the sand which is very unpleasant, so under horrid conditions we saw some great performances from Team T2A. All times listed below are taken from the official race gross times.
Ben Walton - 3rd fastest UAE Resident
Ben Walton although not 100% and suffering a cold got podium for his 1:18:14 being 3rd UAE Resident and bagged some prize money – beers on Benny 🙂
Ed Hawkins also under the weather with the offing of a cold, so hammering the Vit C pre race may have worked as he pulled off a 1:21:49
David Hunt cracked out his usual sterling performance in 1:28:44
Finn Zwager who preparing for IM South Africa produced a PB of 1:25:40 (1:25:30 net) – superb racing in tough conditions.
Despite the windy conditions Peter Faulhaber took a PB by 4-mins with a 1:31:11 – he’s looking for that sub 1:30… It’s due soon 🙂
In her first half marathon and the longest distance she’s run Simone Green (listed in the results as Lena Shehadeh) cracked out a 1:57:58… Brilliant performance and a contester for February’s AOTM. She’s worked hard for that result! 😉
Amer Alaily had a good day out with a 1:37:51 (1:36:10 net) and didn’t blow up!!! Well done Amer we’re getting there 🙂
Chantal El-Khoury also strode out for her first half marathon in a 2:01:40 (1:59:59 net)… We don’t know much about Chantal… So Team – meet Chantal 🙂
At last but not least we had another soldier out there battling illness – Matt Warnock (Listed as Craig Jordan). In a not too shabby 1:33:33 considering a tummy bug and some chaffing, from all accounts a tough day out for Matt!! Well done. You can keep up with Matt’s on his blog Dubai Desert Tri Tales
So check out all the results on the official RAK Half Marathon website. If you are looking for a PB on a fast course consider this race for next year!
We almost forgot to give Suisse Marc a mention for his recent effort in Al Ain, UAE. He took part in what could be considered the toughest sprint triathlon in the world… The BEAST Triathlon. Quite a claim you may think, but for those who have ridden up Jebel Hafeet you’ll probably agree with that conclusion! 🙂 Suisse is not a stranger to mountains what with being Suisse! and to his own admission it really was a challenge. Jebel Hafeet is a 10km climb ascending 1000m from the bottom to the summit, and there are NO flats… T2 is in the Mecure Hotel car park so
the start of the 5km run is a steep ascent, and then it just continues up to the summit… It is relentless! Well done to Marc – 10th position in the Open male category with a very respectable an overall time of 1:37:38. Marc was in a class Pro field including Top Dog No.1 Faris Al Sultan (1:16:29), 2nd Jeremy Jurkiewicz (1:16:43) and 3rd Paul Ambrose (1:17:27) of Team Abu Dhabi who were in town on a training camp in Al Ain. The team have the Monster that is the Team T2A Jebel Hafeet Camp to look forward to at the end of March…. Grrr… Get yourselves there for some serious hurt administered by Coach Pain 🙂
A bumper weekend coming up here with RAK Friday and Sri Lanka Sunday.
RAK has Newbies on debut running such as Chantal and Simone, both in fine form and have no worries at all 🙂 From there, we have the big boys such as defending white RAK champion Benny Walton, Ed looking for a PB, Hunty off 3.15hr form, Amer 3kg down, Illinois Pete on PB form well and truly, Chombi, Finn on IM SA fitness, Big Matty well and truly on PB form and Capt J I think running however, I never quite know there (a J and coach joke).
Moving over to Sri Lanka and if its live, we shall have the chatroom pumping Sunday to follow the troops.
Sri Lanka 70.3 has 17 of us racing which is awesome stuff, Janahan, Oman Lisa and Ahmed, Higgsy, Stevie, Tim on debut, Sime, Craig, Piers, Hammer, Mitchell on debut, Elliot, Jay Grant, Marie on debut (5150) Seano on debut, Ian and Janey.
Thats a solid showing with 28 all in racing….
We had some good results from this weekends Skins Dubai Triathlon Series 2011/12 Race 2 Olympic Distance (1.5km Swim – 40km Bike – 10km Run) race at Al Mamzar Park in Dubai on 3 February 2012. A handful of T2A athletes competed with a podium from Matt Warnock who secured 3rd in AG M19-39 and a PB at the distance with an impressive 2:02:54 (new entry to the T2A Standard Distance Top 10).
Other results from:
Peter Faulhaber 2:19:28
Chris McVicars 2:32:12 – Great results from Chris who raced just one week after Dubai Marathon.
Now we do have evidence of another team member racing… Frederic Jacobs… BUT no results for him. Maybe he had a technical issue out there? Let us know what happened Freddie.
